Now it's finally here. Swos Online for real !
The possibility to play Swos over internet has
been wanted for a long long time and now it's reality.
The files and information you need are on this page.
Other Swos competions (old fashion, send result by mail)
are also to been found on this page.
Swos Over Internet
(this part is published in coperation with Purple Swos)
Until now the only way of playing Swos "head to head" has been to
compare result by mail, but this way is not a very reliable way.
Becouse the result will always be based on the score against computer.
Anyway that's (almost) history now !
The fact that it has been able to play Swos over the net for a while,
is now released to the big crowd. But still there are some problems.
The first thing you must make sure is that you have a fast connection.
At leased 56k, if you have "flat-rate" / "fast connection" / "broadband",
then it should be no problem.
At the moment there are two ways of playing Swos over internet.
* Sega Megadrive with Sensi Rom
* Amiga Emulator with Swos Rom
Sega Megadrive Sensi Int. Online
1.) Make sure your connection is fast enough
Even if you got a 56k modem it's nothing that say you got a
56k connection. Lots of European phonelines can only carry
49k. To be absolutly sure of getting 56k connection or higher
I suggest you check for the "broadband" or ISDN alternative in
your area. In Sweden I recommend you to visit
PC för alla for prices.
I hope I haven't scared you off now. I just want to make sure you,
understand that even with a slow connection you can play over internet
but you will have to be ready that it will be slow esp if the players
are located far from each other (for eg Canada and Czech Republic).
2.) Download Sega Megadrive Emulator & Sensi Rom
To be honest it's not Swos you can play over internet with MD-emu.
It's an emulated version of
Sensible Soccer International Edition.
To play you need:
Sega Megadrive Emulator &
Sensible Soccer International Edition
3.) Find a opponent
The chance of finding a Sensi player at random of one of the servers
is almost an mission impossible. The best way of finding an opponent
is to take a look at the
"Swos ladder" this ladder is located
at the bottom of this page. When you have find your opponent, and you
both are connected to the net and ready to play a match. Load up the
emulaters and load up the Sensi-rom.
Please note - the ROM must be
named EXACTLY the same on both players computers or things will go wrong.
4.) Find a server
When both are online and have the game loaded, then both must connect to a
server by selecting the "Netplay" option in the File-menu.
There you will see a list of servers avalible for you to use. Pick one that
has a low "ping" for both you and your opponent and click connect !
You may wish to change the connection type (bottom right of server screen)
to excellent, for better results. Once connected, double check your "ping"
in the list of users at the top right to ensure it is satisfactory.
If not, disconnecting and re-connecting can sometimes bring it down.
5.) Start a game
One of you then need to select "Start a game"-option in the Server-window.
The other player will see a list of games at the bottom and he/she just has
to select "Join game".

2.) Download Amiga Emulator, Swos Rom & Configuration File
If you use the Amiga-emulator you can play any version of Swos as
long as your opponent use the same version.
To play you need a Amiga emulator
(
WinUAE is recommended) and Swos Rom.
Swos ECE or
Swos 96/97
3.) Configurate your WinUAE
To get everything work as good as possible, you need to ensure that both
players WinUAE's are configurated in the same way, as well as named EXACLY
the same. To help make it easy for you, is here a configuration that sets
up WinUAE in the best way for most versions of Amiga Swos.
If both players use this configuration, ther should be no problems.
